Overcoming the effects of the devastating earthquake is going to take many months and years. As technologists, we want to utilize technology to enable the relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts. We want to empower the volunteers and responders do their work effectively and quickly. We want to connect the survivors and victims to the services they desperately need. We want to explore ways technology can help us become stronger as a nation when we are back up on our feet again... We want to enable the rebuilding efforts utilizing the power of the 21st century technology.
We will bring personnel with hands-on disaster response experience from the Police, Army, Government, and INGO to share how they responded, what they learnt, and their views on what we need to do better in the future. Such sharing will stimulate the hackers in attendance, who are eager to contribute with their skills to solve real problems. We encourage leveraging existing tools instead of building everything from the ground up. Solutions that are low tech but effective are encouraged over solutions that are complicated/sophisticated.
